Who is Gbeke?

Gbeke is not your average Nigerian singer-songwriter.

Gbeke (pronounced beck-eh) is a Nigerian-American Afrofusion and R&B singer-songwriter whose timeless sound has distinctively made international waves. Combining Afro-Beat, Neo-Soul, and a plethora of Alternative rhythms, Gbeke uses her music as a platform for social change. She unashamedly reflects on real-life experiences including struggles with mental health and sexual assault to share her story and educate the world.

Born and raised in Goodyear, Arizona, Gbeke’s interest in singing began when she was 5 years old. One evening in 2003, Gbeke stumbled upon a special show called The Disco Ball. She enjoyed the show as it featured many artists performing disco era songs and from then on, she developed an interest in being showcased and singing.

When she turned 8, she began performing in talent shows at the Boys and Girls Club and family functions. Not long after, she started writing poetry in her spare time and was encouraged by her parents to save them for future reference. It was through her poems that she later started writing songs. When she was 12, she wrote her first song, “Believe” just days after the 2010 release of “We are the World.” As time elapsed, Gbeke maintained her aspiration to become a singer by being active in her church and school choirs throughout her senior year of high school. She also took voice lessons during this time, while performing at football games, pep rallies, and showcases.

By the time she reached college, she was invited to sing at the annual National Association of African American Honors Programs conference for three consecutive years. In addition, she sang at forums, black history month showcases and mental health seminars. Following her graduation from Florida A&M University with her dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Business in May of 2019, Gbeke continued the relentless pursuit of her passion to become a world-renown artist. As a result of her faith in God and the support of her family of believers, Gbeke was able to channel her ambition and drive to become an international star.

In August of 2016, Gbeke released her first studio mixtape, titled “Looks,” via SoundCloud. She eagerly began learning about arranging beats and songs, sound engineering, along with writing the songs that she recorded. From here, she released her first single “Stuck on U” in 2017 and her first EP "Division" in 2018 on Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer. She then released her self- written, recorded and engineered EP "Deflection" in early 2019 via Soundcloud. Her 2-track single "Daydream", featuring “Breathin” and “Cloud11” followed in September 2019. In 2020, Gbeke began releasing Afropop singles including “Hold U Tight,” on January 17, and “Logo” in April. Her most recent EP titled “R.A.P.E.” – Rest Assured, Peace Exists – was released on December 4, 2020. She has followed up with singles in 2021 including, "Gi Mi," "Logo" Remix featuring Nigerian artiste Zlatan, and "Slow Mo."

Gbeke has opened for various artists including Chidinma, Teni, Flavour, and P-Square. She also won the #ShowYourProof contest to perform at Made in America sponsored by Proof Point Seltzers, Music Breakr, TIDAL, and EQ Distribution. There, she performed alongside Megan thee Stallion, Kehlani, Tinashe, Roddy Rich, Doja Cat, Lil Baby, Capella Grey, Mariah the Scientist, and more.

By making music for feeling, dancing, and healing, Gbeke not only sings to entertain- she sings to be heard. Her motto is “Encourage everyone everywhere.”
